Birmingham, Birmingham
From £20.00
If you haven't been before, Birmingham is massive—it’s the UK’s second-largest city and has a completely different energy to Yorkshire. Because of the massive student population from its five universities, it's a very young, diverse, and fast-paced city that doesn't take itself too seriously.
Here is a quick breakdown of what makes the city tick:
The Canal Network: A massive part of Birmingham's identity. It famously has more miles of canal than Venice, and today the old industrial towpaths around Brindleyplace and Gas Street Basin are lined with bars, cafes, and restaurants. It’s a great area to just wander around if the weather is decent.
The Industrial Roots turned Creative: It was the heart of the Industrial Revolution (and yes, the real home of the Peaky Blinders). While it used to be known purely as a manufacturing hub, those massive Victorian factories have been converted into creative spaces. Areas like Digbeth are now filled with street art, independent indoor markets, cinema cooperatives, and retro gaming arcades.
A Massive Food Culture: Birmingham is the birthplace of the Balti, but it’s also a massive hub for street food. Places like the Digbeth Dining Club events or the vendors around the city centre offer pretty much any cuisine you can think of, making it a great city for a cheap lunch or a proper sit-down meal.
Architectural Contrasts: It’s a weird and wonderful mix of old and new. You’ll see brutalist concrete next to stunning Victorian red-brick buildings, all sitting in the shadow of ultra-modern landmarks like the futuristic, disc-covered Bullring building or the massive, glittering Library of Birmingham in Centenary Square.
It’s an easy city to navigate on foot, making it perfect for a day trip where you just want to wander, explore, and get a change of scenery.
Spaces are limited and this trip is sure to be popular! Book now to avoid disappointment.
