1. Introduction
This policy outlines the regulations, expectations, and operational guidelines for all events within the UBU Intramural Sports programme for the 2026 academic year. It is designed to ensure a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable environment for all #TeamBradford students.
2. Eligibility and Registration
Membership: All participants must be currently enrolled students at the University of Bradford.
Registration: Players must be registered on the official UBU platform prior to participating. This includes signing up via Sport, Course, Society, or as an Individual (Free Agent).
3. Health, Safety, and Welfare
Alcohol and Substance Policy: The consumption of alcohol or use of illegal substances at any on-campus sports venue is strictly prohibited. Players found under the influence before or during a fixture will be barred from play, and their team may face disqualification.
First Aid: Qualified first aiders will be present or on-call at all sports facilities during scheduled intramural events. Team captains must report any injuries or safety concerns to a UBU Team Member immediately.
Duty of Care: As representatives of their respective teams, captains have a duty of care to their players.
4. Code of Conduct and Fair Play
Respect: All participants, spectators, and officials must be treated with respect. Abusive language, discrimination, or violent conduct will result in immediate disciplinary action.
Anti-Initiation Policy: UBU operates a strict zero-tolerance policy towards initiation ceremonies. No student should be coerced, pressured, or forced into taking part in any humiliating, degrading, or dangerous activities (including forced consumption of food or drink) as a condition of joining a squad.
Disciplinary Action: Breaches of this code will be referred to the UBU Management. Sanctions may include fines, team suspensions, or complete removal from the intramural programme.
5. Match Operations and Facilities
Punctuality: Teams must arrive at least 15 minutes prior to their scheduled fixture. A strict grace period of 5 minutes is allowed, after which a walkover will be awarded to the opposing team.
Equipment: UBU will provide essential match equipment (balls, nets, bibs). Players are responsible for wearing appropriate personal sports attire and non-marking footwear for indoor venues.
Cancellations: If a team cannot fulfil a fixture, the captain must notify the Intramural Coordinator at least 24 hours in advance.
6. Inclusion and Equal Opportunities
The UBU Intramural Sports programme is dedicated to the inclusion of all members regardless of gender, sexuality, religious beliefs, age, race, nationality, ability, or background. We strive to provide adaptive rules and mixed-gender leagues where possible to ensure that everyone can get active.
