Whitby Coast Hike…

Starting in the seaside village of Staithes, nestled in a dramatic cove, we will walk up and along the clifftops. Take in the views across the sea, as we decend onto the sandy beach at the village of Runswick Bay. Ascend through a cliffside ravine, and continue the journey along the clifftops. Walk along the beach at Sandsend until we reach the world famous town of Whitby, the home of Dracula! The day will end with us climbing the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey.

The route combines cliffside paths, valley trails and beaches, making it a stunning seaside adventure!

Important Details:

Date: Sunday 5th April
Meet: Richmond Reception - 08:00 (Coach departs 08:15)
Arrive: Staithes - 10:30

Food: There are limited food opertunities until we reach the end. Please bring your own food and water
Toilets: Available at the begining, middle and end of the hike.

Expected Finish: Around 7 - 9 pm depending on hiking pace.

Please Bring:

Plenty of water
Food/snacks for the full day
Warm layers and waterproofs
Sturdy walking shoes or hiking boots

Weather conditions on the coast can be windy, muddy and wet, so please come prepared.

If you need hiking boots, the Society has a few spare pairs available, please contact us beforehand.

Distance: 21.1 km (13.1 miles)
Elevation Gain: 303 m (993 ft)
Estimated Hiking Time: 7 - 8 hours

The difficult of this hike is its length, 21.1 km is the longest hike we have ever done!

Expect windy and muddy conditions as we walk through farm fields on the clifftops.
Be careful whilst ontop and below the cliffs!
The beaches will be wet, consider waterproof shoes and a spare pair of socks. 

We will take frequent breaks throughout the day.
